The Calanais Standing Stones are a cruciform setting of standing stones on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. They were erected during the Neolithic era, probably between 2900 and 2600 BC, making them older than Stonehenge. The stones are made of local Lewisian gneiss, which is one of the oldest rocks in the world.
I stood before these ancient giants as the mist rolled over the moor, feeling the weight of thousands of years pressing into the very air around me. It was as if the stones themselves were breathing, whispering secrets of ancestors who long ago sought the heavens from this very spot.
