Tors are ancient granite outcrops created by the weathering and erosion of the surrounding bedrock over millions of years. The lone trees found on Dartmoor are often stunted and shaped by the constant high winds and harsh, acidic soil conditions. Historically, the elevated positions of the Tors made them important cultural features, serving as prehistoric defensive points and burial sites.
Standing exposed on the moor, sketching these ancient rocks and that solitary, stubborn tree, I felt a deep connection to the enduring spirit of this land. This piece captures the raw, elemental beauty of a place where the landscape refuses to be tamed, perfect for anyone who values resilience.
