The Eddystone Lighthouse stands on hazardous rocks about 9 miles southwest of Rame Head, Cornwall, marking one of the world's most dangerous sailing areas. The current structure, completed in 1882, is actually the fourth major lighthouse built on these treacherous submerged rocks. The previous, and arguably most famous, structure was Smeaton's Tower (1759), renowned for pioneering the use of interlocking stone blocks for maritime construction.
The way the heavy indigo washes collide with the sharp, stoic lines of the tower captures the perpetual drama of the sea. I feel deeply connected to the resilience required by this lonely sentinel, forever standing firm against the brutal power of the ocean.
