Grasmere is a village in the English Lake District, famously home to the poet William Wordsworth who resided at Dove Cottage. Traditional Lake District doors were historically constructed from sturdy local timber to provide protection against the harsh, often wet, mountain winters. The stone walls surrounding the door are classic examples of dry stone walling, a craft developed in the region over centuries without the use of mortar.
