Malayan tapirs are the largest of the four recognized tapir species. They are solitary animals, primarily active at night (nocturnal), and spend much of their time foraging for leaves and fruit. Their distinctive black and white coloring provides excellent camouflage in the shadows of the jungle, breaking up their outline, a camouflage technique called disruptive coloration.
When I saw this magnificent creature resting, the quiet contemplation of the forest seemed to settle around its massive form. Capturing the interplay of light and shadow on its unique coat required focus, transforming a moment of deep jungle tranquility into a lasting graphite memory.
