Traditional dry stone barns in the Peak District were essential for storing fodder and sheltering livestock during the harsh winters. Constructed primarily from local limestone or gritstone, these buildings utilize materials found directly in the surrounding fields or local quarries. The architecture of these structures dates largely to the 18th and 19th centuries, serving as a permanent reminder of the region's agricultural enclosure history.
