The Plymouth Pear is one of Britain's rarest wild trees, native to only two locations in the wild in the UK. It is a small, thorny tree that produces small, hard, inedible fruits, distinct from cultivated orchard pears. Botanist T.R.A. Briggs, (no relation) whom the tree is named after, discovered it in the Plymouth area in the 19th century.
I spent hours capturing the delicate, thorny branches of this rare beauty to preserve its fragile history on paper. Every stroke feels like a whisper of the ancient hedgerows where this elusive tree still clings to existence.
