Squeeze stile sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing.

Squeeze stiles are a traditional type of field access designed primarily to let pedestrians pass while blocking large animals, especially livestock like cattle and sheep. They are most commonly constructed using two upright stone slabs, creating a gap just wide enough for a person. Historically, they are integral features of the agricultural landscape, particularly in areas like the Peak District or Yorkshire Dales, where dry stone walling is prevalent.

I stood here and felt the ancient weight of the land, imagining all the quiet travelers who have passed through this narrow gap over centuries. Capturing the rough texture of the stone and the light filtering between the slabs, this piece speaks to the enduring, silent boundaries that define our landscapes.
