Steam fair engine sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing.

The first successful steam traction engine was built in 1859 by Thomas Aveling, designed to haul heavy loads on roads and fields. Steam engines were crucial during the Industrial Revolution, providing mobile power for farming (ploughing, threshing) and transporting goods long before internal combustion engines became common.
Unlike railways, steam traction engines were designed with large, rugged wheels to handle varied terrain, making them vital for rural infrastructure where tracks were nonexistent.
When I saw this old engine, I could smell the coal smoke, transporting me back to a bustling fairground of a bygone era. Capturing the heavy, muscular lines of the machinery in graphite felt like paying tribute to the robust engineering that powered the world a century ago
