The Tamworth Pig is one of the oldest surviving pig breeds, originating in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. They are often nicknamed the "Irish Grazer" and are known for their distinctive ginger or red coat and long snout, making them excellent foragers. Classified as a 'bacon pig,' they have long, lean bodies, contrasting with the shorter, fatter types often favored today.
I wanted to capture the sheer presence of this heritage breed, focusing on the texture of their coarse coat and the keen intelligence in their eyes. This sketch speaks to the grounding connection between humanity and the animals we raise, a quiet, enduring partnership.
