Ferrets are domesticated forms of the European polecat (Mustela putorius), and have been kept as pets and working animals for at least 2,500 years, primarily for hunting rabbits (ferreting). They are obligate carnivores, meaning their diet must consist primarily of meat. Interestingly, a group of ferrets is traditionally known as a "business."
There is an undeniable alertness in their stance, a focused intensity that speaks to their ancestry as nimble hunters. I wanted to capture that precise moment of attention—a creature momentarily pausing its ceaseless motion, yet always ready to spring into action.
