The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium-sized bird of prey widely distributed across Europe. They are famously known for their distinctive, cat-like mewing cry often heard when they are circling high in the sky. Remarkably, buzzard chicks typically remain in the nest for about 7 to 8 weeks before they are ready to fledge.
Watching these fluffy chicks huddle together in the quiet of their nest reminded me of the delicate balance between fragility and the future strength of such powerful predators. I created this sketch to capture that fleeting moment of youthful wonder before they take to the wild winds.
