Grassington is a major village and tourist center in Wharfedale, situated within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The traditional stone field barns (laithes) seen near Grassington were built primarily between the 17th and 19th centuries and served to house livestock during winter and store hay. These distinctive structures are typically constructed from local limestone or gritstone, reflecting the natural geology of the Dales.
I find a profound quietness standing before these ancient stone structures; they hold the history of hard work and the resilience of generations of farmers. Capturing the rugged texture of the limestone against the sweeping, open sky allowed me to translate that deep sense of permanence onto paper.
