Hurst Point Lighthouse was established in 1867, replacing several earlier lights at this critical coastal location. It stands guard at the western approach to the Solent, a key waterway for shipping entering Southampton and Portsmouth. The lighthouse tower is 39 meters (128 feet) tall and continues to be an active navigational aid operated by Trinity House.
The light cutting through the heavy coastal mist always captivated me; standing on the spit, you can feel the sheer history of this sentinel protecting the narrow channel. I wanted to capture that raw, powerful atmosphere, where the grey skies meet the solid strength of the tower, providing solace in the storm.
The original artwork is ink and Windsor & Newton watercolour paints on Saunders Mill NOT 300 gsm watercolour paper. Signed and numbered.
