Moorlands are open, uncultivated habitats characterized by low-growing vegetation on acidic soils. They play a vital role in carbon sequestration, as peatlands, a specific type of moorland, store more carbon than all the world's forests combined. These landscapes are often exposed to harsh, rapidly changing weather conditions, which define the dramatic cloud formations frequently seen above them.
