Traditional stone farmhouses in regions like the Peak District often date back to the 17th or 18th century, constructed from locally quarried gritstone. Many of these historic structures feature heavy stone-flagged roofs, designed to withstand the harsh, windy weather characteristic of high-altitude moorlands. Such farms were integral to the local wool and livestock economy, serving as the heartbeat of isolated agrarian communities for generations.
I stood there capturing the weathered gritstone, feeling the silent echoes of the families who once called this isolated place home. Every stroke of my pencil was an attempt to preserve the dignified stillness of this timeless farmhouse before the moors reclaim it completely.
