Pine martens (Martes martes) are agile, tree-dwelling mammals belonging to the mustelid family, which also includes weasels, stoats, and otters. They are renowned for their incredible climbing ability, using their non-retractable claws to navigate high branches in search of prey like squirrels, birds, and insects. In many parts of Europe, these elusive creatures were historically hunted for their soft, valuable fur, leading to significant declines in their populations during the 19th and early 20th centuries. 
I spent hours watching this elusive creature dart between the ancient branches, capturing its wild gaze on paper felt like a quiet conversation with the forest itself. Bringing this quick, fleeting moment to life is my way of preserving the hidden magic that dances through the woodland shadows.
