Winter farming often involves the practice of dormant season management to protect soil from erosion. Snow cover acts as an insulating blanket, keeping the ground temperature stable for dormant crops and microorganisms. Farmsteads in these regions were historically grouped closely together to conserve heat and resources during the freezing months. I captured the quiet stillness of the valley as the first heavy snow settled upon the fields. Standing there in the biting cold, I felt a deep, serene connection to the earth as it prepared for its long winter slumber.
