Southwold Pier was originally opened in 1900 and was once nearly 800 feet long to serve Victorian steamships. In 1934, a severe gale washed away a middle section of the structure, effectively cutting its usable length in half. The pier is now famous for its eccentric water clock and quirky arcade machines designed by Tim Hunkin.
