Stone stiles are historical features in the British countryside that allow pedestrians to traverse stone walls while preventing livestock from crossing. These structures typically consist of steps built directly into the wall, serving as a vital link in ancient public rights of way. Many stone stiles are constructed from local materials like limestone or gritstone, reflecting the geology of the immediate area.
I sat by this ancient, weathered structure for hours, mesmerized by how these rough-hewn stones whispered tales of countless travellers passing through the ages. Capturing the rugged texture of the rock felt like tracing the very history of our countryside with my pencil.
