Traditional white-washed cottages were historically common in rural regions to combat dampness, as the lime-wash coating acted as a preservative. Many rural dwellings utilized local stone for their walls to provide essential insulation against harsh weather conditions. The term 'cottage' originally referred to a small dwelling in the countryside, often associated with a tenant farmer.
I stood before this quiet scene, feeling the raw intensity of the approaching storm as it brushed against the sturdy, weathered walls of the home. Painting this, I wanted to capture that fleeting moment of solitude where nature's power meets the humble resilience of a shelter.
