Limestone pavements form when glacial action removes overlying soil, exposing soluble bedrock. The deep fissures, known as grikes, and the flat blocks, known as clints, create unique microclimates that support rare flora. The rocks depicted are sedimentary, formed millions of years ago from the skeletons of sea creatures accumulating on the ancient seabed.
I love capturing the rugged permanence of these geological forms; standing there, you feel the millennia of wind and water shaping every ridge and crevice. This drawing aims to capture that silent, relentless strength and the profound sense of time embedded in the stone.
