The Eurasian Wren (*Troglodytes troglodytes*) is one of the smallest birds in its range but has an extraordinarily loud voice for its size. In European folklore, the wren is often called the "King of Birds," stemming from an ancient fable where it flew higher than the Eagle. Wrens build dome-shaped nests and often construct several "cock nests" before the female chooses one for breeding.
Hearing a wren’s explosive song echo through the winter woods is always a moment of true surprise and delight. I wanted this sketch to capture the raw energy of that tiny, powerful sound bursting from such a humble little creature.
